Chancellor Martha Gilliland Named "Business Executive of the Year"
I have spent 30 years in higher education, as a faculty member, Dean, Vice President, Vice Provost, Provost, and Chancellor, primarily in public research universities. I love research universities and feel priviledged to have a career working with young people and among inquisitive minds. For me, it is a priviledge to work in an institution whose very purpose is the generation, evaluation, and transmission of ideas. Now I am writing and speaking about our issues in public research universities, progress on which I believe is vital to our performance and our ability to contribute going forward. Since the performance of higher education is vital for America and the planet, our issues in public research universities are America's issues.
I offer my opinion on several of these issues. I solicit your input and specific examples related to your ideas.
